The "pre-qual" as it is known, let's you know ... based on the accuracy of the information you have provided to them (your current income, your current debts, your current savings and your credit FICO score all being verified at some later point) ... you would qualify for a loan today of $XXX,XXX. That will let you know you price range for a new purchase. The Lenders usually provide this as a courtesy to you with the hope that you will come back to them for the loan when you are ready to purchase.
